Reformed & Presbyterian distinctions
While we recognize that no one church or person has a perfect theology and our denominational convictions most certainly do not separate us from our brothers and sisters in Christ, these are the convictions that we hold to and believe are made evident in the Scriptures
We at Taylorstown Presbyterian Church are members of the Presbyterian Church (USA). As a Presbyterian denomination, we are governed by a Session of Elders that are elected by the congregation at our annual Congregation Meeting. These Elders, along with our pastor, work hard to prayerfully make decisions that glorify God most effectively and lead Christ’s church most faithfully. Our church leadership also represents our local church in our larger local body, the Washington Presbytery.
As a church founded within the Reformed Tradition, we hold to the standard tenets of Reformed Theology. We believe that salvation is made possible by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to the infallible authority of the Scriptures alone, and to the glory of God alone. As any Reformed and Presbyterian church should, we view Jesus as God's perfect revelation of himself to his people and this is made most clear through the witness of the Scriptures (our Bible). This means that the Bible is the ultimate authority for both the church and our lives revealing God himself, through the work of the Spirit, in the person of Jesus.
We hold to the traditional confessions of the Reformed Tradition including both the Apostle’s and Nicene Creed, the Westminster Confession of Faith and more current confessions as found in the PC(USA) Book of Confessions. We are Calvinistic in our history, tradition, and beliefs. We believe that God is sovereign in all matters of salvation. That salvation is a monergistic work accomplished by the Holy Spirit. We believe in the doctrines of original sin, election, effectual calling, the means of grace, total depravity, and covenant theology.
We are a Confessing Church.
We believe that we are called to show radical hospitality, genuine love, great patience, and incredible kindness to all people. We believe that our church is being used by God to share the good news of freedom and salvation found in Jesus to our neighbors in Taylorstown and the world.
